The little bee Maya...
is very excited: The empress (Andrea Sawatzki) of Summtropolis has sent a messenger to the gossip poppy meadow and Maya hopes that he will deliver an invitation to the upcoming honey games. There is great disappointment when the envoy instead demands half of the honey supplies for the games.

Without the honey, however, Maja's beehive can hardly survive the coming winter and so the little bee decides outraged to travel to Summtropolis with her friend Willi (Jan Delay) to tell the empress what she thinks. But she is not at all pleased that one of her subjects is so cheeky to her and wants to teach Maja a lesson: She is allowed to take part in the honey games, but with great dedication, because if Maja loses with her team, the bees of the poppy meadow have to give away all their honey! This must not happen and Maja begins to train diligently for the competition...
